ELK AND DEER LICENSE PRICES
A
rchery and rifle elk licenses except for the first rifle season are unlimited and sold over the counter at all sporting goods stores in Colorado. All deer licenses are limited and sold on a draw basis. Non-resident elk licenses are $490.25, non-resident deer licenses $295.25, non-resident mountain lion licenses $250.25 and non-resident bear licenses $250.25. Hunting licenses are not really an expense. The meat and horns are worth more than the price of the licenses. You are paying for Wildlife Management and an investment in hunting for the future. You can pick up your license when you arrive in Colorado or you can send us your hunting license information, along with the appropriate fees, and we will have your license ready for you in camp upon your arrival. Muzzleloader elk, deer, cow elk, 1st season bull elk and limited September rifle bear season licenses are limited and sold on a drawing basis. These licenses have application deadlines of April 6th. To obtain an application, please contact us or the Colorado Division of Wildlife at 6060 Broadway, Denver, CO 80216; phone (303) 297-1192. Please book your hunt early. We have limited openings on all hunts. You will be sent a license application in March if you need to apply for a license by April 6, 2004.

Archery elk licenses are either sex licenses. You may take a bull or a cow. Bulls must have 4 points or more or 5” brow tines. Archery deer licenses are also either sex licenses. However, Winterhawk Outfitters strongly urges hunters not to take the does and small bucks. We hope this will help ensure we always have a good, mature buck population.

UNLIMITED ANTLERED (BULL) ELK LICENSES
L
icenses will be issued over-the-counter. No application necessary for the archery and second, third and fourth rifle seasons. Muzzleloader elk licenses and first season rifle elk licenses will be limited and on a drawing. Application deadline is April 6, 2004.
FIRST SEASON SPECIAL RIFLE ELK ONLY SEASON - Oct. 11-15
W
ith fewer hunters in the field, this special first season elk only hunt is excellent. All licenses will be determined by drawing, so be sure to apply before April 6, 2004 if you are interested.
LIMITED DEER LICENSE
A
ll deer licenses (archery, rifle and muzzleloading) will be issued by drawing this year. There will be no deer licenses sold over the counter. No either-sex deer licenses will be offered in the rifle seasons. There also will be no left-over antlered deer licenses sold for any season this year. Limited deer licenses will be for archery, muzzleloader and rifle seasons. Deer license application deadline is April 6, 2004.
SEPTEMBER BEAR HUNTING
U
nlimited bear licenses are available over-the-counter for archery, muzzleloader and the four rifle bear seasons. These are an either-sex license and are valid statewide. You must also have a deer or elk license valid for that season. For instance, if you want to hunt bear from September 2 to 28 with your bow, you must also have an archery deer or archery elk license to be legal. This will be the same in the muzzleloader deer and elk season, September 13 to 21 and the four rifle seasons: First, October 11-15; second, October 18-26; third, November 1-7; and fourth, November 8-12. Non-resident bear license is $250.25. Anyone may take a bear while hunting deer and/or elk with us in the archery, muzzleloader or four rifle seasons hunt. An additional $1,000 kill fee will be charged for taking a bear. This will be charged only if you take a bear and will be collected when bear is taken.
LIMITED SEPTEMBER BEAR SEASON September 2-30
T
here are a limited number of rifle either-sex bear licenses for this season, available by drawing only. Application deadline is April 6st. This will be a spot, stalk hunt or by stand hunting in early morning and evenings. The cost of this bear hunt will be $3,200 per hunter. This will be a rifle bear only hunt. We will only take two bear hunters for this hunt.

If you have any questions on any of the above, please feel free to call us or the Colorado Division of Wildlife at 303-297-1192.
